April 19: Meet the Ballerina Matinee
An Unforgettable Afternoon of Dance!
Join us on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 3 PM for our Meet the Ballerina Matinee, a great experience for adults, families, and young people. Begin the afternoon with our pre-show celebration featuring a live DJ and dancing in the Grand Tier Lobby. Then, immerse yourself in our extraordinary program.
The program begins with Blake Works IV (The Barre Project), choreographed by William Forsythe and created specifically for Dance Theatre of Harlem, set to the electro-soul music of British composer James Blake.
Next, Passage of Being, a poignant reflection on love, connection, and the power of the present, choreography by Jodie Gates.
The afternoon continues with DTH Artistic Director Robert Garland’s New Bach, an outstanding example of Mr. Garland’s, “post-modern-urban neoclassicism” style blending classical form with a contemporary edge.
Closing out the evening will be the DTH signature classic Firebird, where a Russian folk tale about the triumph of love over evil is reimagined in a luscious Caribbean setting. John Taras’ choreography, paired with Stravinsky’s iconic score, comes to life through the inimitable multihyphenated Geoffrey Holder’s vibrant sets and costumes.
After the curtain falls, the magic continues with our Meet the Ballerina event, where dance enthusiasts can meet and take pictures with the stars of Dance Theatre of Harlem. Whether you are looking to inspire a young person’s love for ballet or if you are craving an afternoon for yourself, this is a program that will ignite your spirit. Don’t miss the magic!
