April 16: Dance Community Night
Calling all dancers, dance teachers, dance students and DTH alumni!
Join us for Dance Community Night on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at New York City Center located at 131 W. 55th Street (between 6th and 7th avenues) New York, NY 10019!
Expect an epic night! Doors open at 6:30pm with a Dance Party with DTH Alumni Preston Dugger DJ Duggz and a special dancer focused pre-show welcome with Artistic Director Robert Garland. The performance begins at 7:30pm and the dance party continues after the show!
The evening begins with Blake Works IV (The Barre Project), choreographed by William Forsythe and created specifically for Dance Theatre of Harlem, set to the electro-soul music of British composer James Blake.
Next, Passage of Being, a poignant reflection on love, connection, and the power of the present, choreography by Jodie Gates.
The program continues with DTH Artistic Director Robert Garland’s New Bach, a classic example of Garland’s, “post-modern-urban neoclassicism” style blending classical form with a contemporary edge.
Closing out the evening will be the DTH signature classic Firebird, where a Russian folk tale about the triumph of love over evil is reimagined in a luscious Caribbean setting. John Taras’ choreography, paired with Stravinsky’s iconic score, comes to life through the inimitable multihyphenated Geoffrey Holder’s vibrant sets and costumes.
Whether you are DTH alumni, a former dancer, currently studying or dancing, or just LOVE dance, we want to see you there! Come feel the energy, the inspiration, and be in community with us on opening night. This is your night!
