Alexandra Hutchinson

Born: Wilmington, DE.

Training: The Washington School of Ballet, Wilmington Academy of Dance; Summer Intensives with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Carolina Ballet, Ballet Chicago, and Nashville Ballet. In 2015, she accompanied teacher and mentor Violette Verdy to Paris to train and perform.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Ballet, Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music.

Professional Experience: Dance Theatre of Harlem (ninth season), Nashville Ballet 2.  Repertoire includes works by George Balanchine, William Forsythe, John Taras, Robert Garland, Arthur Mitchell, Stanton Welch, Pam Tanowitz, Helen Pickett, Jodie Gates, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Nacho Duato, and Septime Webre. Featured role in Gustave le Gray No. 1 by Pam Tanowitz with New York City Ballet, 2022.  She is the first African American guest artist with New York City Ballet to perform the principal role of Dew Drop in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker.  Artist captured in Movement at Still Point by Mark Mann.

Awards and Honors: Recipient of the Pierians Foundation Incorporated 2018 Emerging Young Artist Award. Named the Virginia Johnson Scholar at TWSB three consecutive years. Appointed to the Board of Directors of Ballet and Books.
