“Bomba” is an Afro-Puerto Rican style of traditional music that reflects the influence of three different cultures that shaped Puerto Rico’s History: Taino (natives indigenous), Spanish and African. The “Bomba” music and dance focused on the powerful expression of Puerto Rico’s African Heritage. In this Bomba class, we are going to learn the basic steps, “paseo” and “piquetes” of some of the most popular “bomba” rhythms. Open to all level of movers!
Luz Iturbe began her formal ballet training at the age of 8 at Escuela de Bellas Artes de Carolina in Puerto Rico. She continued her studies in Ballet San Juan for 8 years where she received a full scholarship and was an apprentice of the company. In 2010, she was part of the corps of ballet of Balleteatro Nacional de Puerto Rico. A year later, after earning a college degree in Marketing and a certification in Entrepreneurship at the University of Puerto Rico, she decided to follow her passion and traveled to New York in 2013 to attend the Dance Theatre of Harlem’s Summer Intensive Program. Afterwards, she joined the DTH school’s Professional Training Program. Currently, she is a freelance professional dancer and dance educator in New York City. Luz has danced with Brooklyn Ballet, Ballet for Young Audiences, R.Evolución Latina, and Pajarillo Pintao among others. Luz is an ABT® Certified Teacher, for Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum and has been sharing her passion for dance and movement for more than five years as a dance educator in various dance organizations in the city.
