DANCE THEATRE OF HARLEM ENSEMBLE
ACCESS INITIATIVE TOUR 2009 - 2010

To celebrate Dance Theatre of Harlem’s 40th Anniversary in 2009, an inaugural national tour has been organized for Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble, a 14 member company comprised of younger dancers trained in the DTH style.  This project will be extended into 2009 – 2010.  A unique artistic - educational package is being made available featuring a smaller and more easily affordable Dance Theatre of Harlem production together with Master Classes and other educational services to audiences that would otherwise be excluded because of economic and geographical circumstances.  The goal of the project is to expand greater audience awareness and involvement in classical ballet and the production is notable for its audience interaction; educational, artistic, and inspirational content; and the incorporation of live music.

The DTH Ensemble is performing mainly in small theaters and on college and university campuses in a production tailored to Young Adults/ Families (but attractive to audiences of all ages) which is called the “Interactive Performance.”   The Interactive Performance is built on the highly successful DTH Lecture - Demonstration format and DTH’s traditional gala / special program wherein the audience is welcomed to a rare glimpse of the training and development of a dance artist.  This production is enhanced by the variety of the artistic content (i.e. typically 2 one-act ballets and a collection of pas de deux) and presented in a spirit of entertainment to meet audience expectations which have been shaped by Reality - T.V.

Lecture – Demonstrations, Master Classes, and other education services complete the package.
